Should Abby Have Gone On The Voyage?

The appropriate age to break a record to sail solo around the world should be at least 20 years old because Abby was in serious danger. For instance, the Los Angeles Times says “Abby was on the wrong type of boat, in the wrong location, at the wrong type of year.” As a result, she didn’t plan very well since she was on the wrong boat at the wrong time and the wrong location. Furthermore, she was foolish to go on a round the world trip on the ocean. To illustrate, Joanna Weiss, a writer for The Globe Columnist, says “ So that’s the definition of bravery now? Embarking on unnecessary risks that jeopardizes the lives of rescue workers? When I thought of a 16-year old bobbing alone in the Indian Ocean, surrounded by 25-foot waves, I did not feel inspired.(Weiss)” Consequently, it means that she went on a voyage and put people at risks because she wanted to go on the voyage. To conclude, parents should decide now if they are open to their children taking risks because it is not very smart to let your child go on a voyage alone. As they study the news, middle schoolers need to think about what is real and what isn’t.
